Step 2 Establish homeostasis

Ending the injury.

Ending the injury to cellular trauma is the start of Homeostasis.

What the Therapeutic Laser does

The Therapeutic Laser is only a tuned beam of heat. The FDA agrees. The FDA's IYL product code defines the diode or cold laser in the same category as an infrared heating lamp. The diode or cold laser is not a laser in the context what you have heard that most lasers exhibit. This laser does not cut tissue. It does not destroy tissue. It is not a tiny focused beam. The diode or cold laser is actually the opposite. Our heat beam spreads out like a snow cone - but does have the ability to penetrate deep into tissue and deliver tuned, therapeutic heat deep into tissue- often deep enough to reach the injury site.

This penetrating heat creates endorphins which are your body's natural opiates. This causes a reduction in pain by giving the patient a sense of euphoria and this causes smooth muscles to relax. When these smooth muscles relax they release tiny valves called sphincters that enlarge so greater circulation of blood to the treatment site is increased.

Establishing Homeostasis

In many muscular skeletal injuries, the fastest way to establish homeostasis is to identify the target point and treat the target point with our therapeutic laser. For starters, the penetrating heat opens the lymphatic vessels that exhaust the edema that has collected from the injury. The cells can begin the healing process.

Other smooth muscles also relax. Sphincters that control lymphatic vessels open up. The lymphatic exhaust any accumulated edema (which contain noxious chemical that irritant nerves endings) and cause pain. The lymphatic vessels can now exhaust the edema. This sets the stage for real tissue growth to occur. When edema accumulates as a pool of infection, is become a chemical irritant to nerves and delays healing.

Greater circulation at the treatment site accelerates the metabolism of sugar at the mitochondria DNA. The increase sugar metabolism suggests a higher or metabolic rate thus a higher healing rate.

So, to summarize, treating the target point with the therapeutic laser:

increase sugar metabolism to accelerate tissue growth.

When homeostasis is NOT established

The body’s natural state is designed to restore homeostasis to injured cells. All body tissue is designed to return to this state once an irritant is removed. However when an injury is not allowed to heal and is constantly irritated, homeostasis fails to occur and healing does not start. This is especially true when the true location of the pain is not diagnosed and when the tissue is not immobilized, a constant re-injury process occurs that leads to the kind of agony we see in pain management clinics.
